Ubuntu 22.04: mimeapps.list entry to open mscz doesn't work

• Aug 8, 2023 - 21:48

I have made an entry:

application/x-musescore3=musescore3.desktop;

in ~/.config/mimeapps.list so that mscz files would open with MuseScore by default. But the files still open per default with file roller and have the "zip" icons instead of the musescore icons.

I did the same thing in Ubuntu 20.04 on my old PC and it works there. Has something changed from 20.04 to 22.04 or have I made some mistake?

Info: What I did before is creating the file "musescore3.desktop in ~/.local/share/applications/ which runs the MuseScore-3.6.2.548021370-x86_64.AppImage. The AppImage is via this desktop file now integrated into the Gnome Shell (the Shell finds Musescore 3.6.2 as an "installed" application and I could set it as favourite in the dash).

It's just that it's not the default application for mscz files.

Any help?

Okay, I managed to solve the problem.

What I did is that I installed MuseScore 3 with apt from the Ubuntu repository. This installed Version 3.2.3 and after that the mscz files showed the correct MS icon.

Now the entry "application/x-musescore3=musescore3.desktop;" in ~/.config/mimapps.list does work and the mscz files get opened with the 3.6.2 AppImage.
