Muse Hub running in the background (always connected)

• Sep 23, 2023 - 20:32

Muse Hub works fine for me -- no problems. However, for general security reasons, I'm a bit uncomfortable with the fact that it is always connected, running in the background. I'd prefer to simply 'enable' Muse Hub when I need to d/load additional material, and leave it disabled (disconnected) as a default.

There is a "Quit Muse Hub" button at the bottom of the Settings page. Will this effectively disable Muse Hub from constantly running in the background? (I read a looong thread about this in one of the MuseScore forums, but I couldn't make heads or tails as to the conclusion.)

Thx!

There seem to be as many opinions on this as there are users.
FWIW, here is my take. I have the Hub app on my desktop. Once in a while I start it and have it look for updates. When it's done I click the Quit button. And make sure it isn't running in the hidden menu on the task bar. There is still a process running. It is supposedly possible that bad players could access you computer through this. I don't think anyone has proved this. I haven't had any problem. The last I heard, this seemed to be more of a possible problem for Linux users.

Thx for that bobjp,

Particularly your comment, "Once in a while I start it and have it look for updates. When it's done I click the Quit button. And make sure it isn't running in the hidden menu on the task bar."

That's exactly the approach I'm considering. I just don't see any upside to having Muse Hub 'active' all the time.

Thx again,
