My scores seem to have mis-identified parts

• Oct 1, 2023 - 10:46

I originally posted this in musescore.com, as that was where I thought the problem lay. But I got the response:
"This doesn't look like a problem with the .com website, so I suggest posting it on the .org forum. "

So here it is ...

I uploaded an SATB choir arrangement: https://musescore.com/user/13945086/scores/12396706/s/_kGNVV?share=copy… from MuseScore 4 and now "My Scores" seems to categorise it as:

Part names

Synthesizer (3), Bass Guitar

...

Categories

Pop for Bass guitar

Any ideas? Does this matter? I assume that if anyone were looking for a choral arrangement, they wouldn't find this!

I have double-checked my "Instruments" and they all seem vocal

The advice was wrong, because the display of ensemble type, instruments and genre is formatted by the website at musescore.com and not here on musescore.org.

However you as the uploader have a role to play when you first upload your score. You need to identify Ensemble Type and Genre for your score. For example as in this church anthem:

Beyond that, I do agree that in recent months the categorization and naming of instruments on musescore.com has been fairly chaotic. You need to push back, because this problem has nothing to do with the MuseScore desktop notation software supported here on musescore.org.
