MuseScore 4 file prevents me from playing files that I created with MuseScore 3

• Oct 12, 2023 - 14:22

I tried to upgrade to MuseScore 4 recently, but was unable to do so because I can't get the latest Mac OS. But, that is not my real problem. A friend sent me MuseScore 4 music which I wasn't able to play. But, since then, I can no longer even play music that I created on MuseScore 3. If I open the music, I get stuck on a measure and can do nothing else. Help.

Does this apply to all MuS 3 files or just one in particular? If only one, attach it to investigate what is wrong. I have often (accidentally) tried to open MuS 4 files (here from questions in the forum) because I did not know that it was a MuS 4 file. On Windows it's no problem - of course the file won't open.

MuS 4 files generally cannot be opened directly in MuS 3. Either ask your friend to export his score as mscx or musicxml, or use a zip tool to extract the mscx file of a MuS 4 mscz score. This can be opened by MuS 3, but some problems may still exist: The text formatting may have disappeared and the MuS 4 score should not have used measure repeat symbols.
