usb piano keyboard input/recommendations

Can MuseScore accept input from a usb piano keyboard? If so, is it difficult to set up, or the sort of thing that "just works"?

Also, can anyone suggest a good usb keyboard?

TIA,
Gabe

MuseScore accepts input from a MIDI keyboard. It works well on Windows and Mac for me;
Keep in mind that MuseScore only provides note by note input, and not real time.
I use a 99$ Yamaha MIDI keyboard (YPT-200) and an USB interface Edirol UM1-X. More for testing than playing...

Thanks lasconic. Could you go into more detail about it being note by note and not real time?

Do you just mean that the input is slow and wouldn't keep up with someone playing at normal speed? It would be used for composing, so the intent is just to reduce the time spent hopping between piano and computer.

By step by step, I mean MIDI input is used to enter pitches and not duration.
Or you can't just play and see your score displayed in realtime.

If you want to do the second, you might want to try to record MIDI with a midi sequencer and open the resulted MIDI file with MuseScore in a second time.
