Musescore crashes on splash screen after 4.2 update

• Dec 27, 2023 - 09:48

Hi! Yesterday I launched Musescore (4.1.1), everything worked fine but after being prompted to update to 4.2 I quit and launched Muse Hub to update. After the update had finished I was no longer able to launch Musescore. Clicking on the icon in the dock, double clicking the .app in the Applications folder, or launching from Muse Hub all result in crashing on the splash screen, before the main application window has shown up. I have tried reinstalling and factory resetting but the problem persists.

Through factory resetting I did however discover that using the Terminal command provided for that, but without the -F flag (/Applications/MuseScore\ 4.app/Contents/MacOS/mscore) I am able to launch Musescore, and seems to be working fine. So it appears that it's only the .app container that exhibits this behaviour. What gives? Any ideas?

(I'm running macOS 14.1.2 on an Intel mac)

I have the same problem but on a M1 Macbook Pro, Splash screen shows for a split second and then it crashes (had this with earlier versions of Musescore 4 as well...)

I encountered similar problems after updated to 4.2 (MBP M1 chip). tried uninstall/ reinstall several times without any success.
