Is it possible to change the playback sound at various points in a single system score?

• Jan 8, 2024 - 21:18

I made a comparison of the three acoustic Muse Sounds guitar sounds in Muse Guitars Vol. 1

I wanted each example to play consecutively in a score uncluttered by blank measures in the unused measures of the other stave/systems. I achieved this by I created three Instruments, each on a separate Guitar + TAB linked staff/system, with a unique Sound for each Staff/Part specified in the Mixer.

    • Example 1 is on Staff 1, measures 1- 4
    • Example 2 is on Staff 2, measures 5 - 8
    • Example 3 is on Staff 3, measures 9 - 12

Then to hide the unused measures I checked Format>Score>Hide empty staves within systems.

This worked fine, but I'm wondering if there's a simpler approach.

Can I write everything on a single system and set an Instrument change? (Equivalent to automating the Mixer's Sound setting on the fly.) I didn't see how to do that with Add>Text>Instrument change and I don't think it's meant for that purpose. Suggestions?

After you added the change instrument text, a window should have opened to let you specify what instrument you want to change to. Did this not happen?
If it did, then you choose what guitar you want to change to. You can further adjust the sound in the mixer after you are done.

What you describe did not happen—though I would have expected something of the kind.

After adding the Instrument Change text object a window did not automatically open to allow me to set the playback sound for the remaining portion of the staff. And the Mixer's Sound setting affects the entire staff ... which is what I would expect if there were not Instrument change.

Still in the dark ...

I'd like to find the documentation on this topic, if it exists.

Thanks Jojo!

That's exactly the affect I'm after. Your score opens with the additional Mixer track, or subtract entitled: (Electric G... And that clearly controls the change to the new instrument, allowing for it's own Muse Sounds sound, level, pan, effect.

But I still don't know the steps required to create or remove that configuration ...

Here on the Mac Add>Text>Instrument change simply adds a text object. No other options, dialogs, or mixer changes occur. What am I missing? Have I been looking at the wrong section of the documentation?
