Modifying the preset durations of notes

Playing a MuseScore violin at a fast speed makes all the notes jam up right next to each other. However staccato abbreviates the notes' durations so drastically that it is really not the solution. In the attached few measures I have tried to modify the length of the 8th note by turning each one into a double-dotted 16th! It's still kind of robotic, but closer to the kind of articulation I have in mind. (Yes, I turned off the reverb)
