Clicking sound in playback
Hello,
I have a problem with playback that in some places it's making weird clicking/clipping sound and it's unbearable. I also uploaded a file with bits of my songs in which I noticed it.

On my system (Windows 11 Home), it sounds fine. (no clicking)

Here are my computer specs:
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-10400F CPU @ 2.90GHz
Video Card NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti
Operating System Windows 10
RAM 16 GB
I don't think hardware is a problem. I also noticed that the clicking sounds are also heard in exported audio. No idea what's happening.

Thank you for this suggestion, it solved my problem. I've changed sample rate in my computer from 48 to 44.1 and it's working flawlessly.

I tried more songs and it seems like timpani still does this weird crackling noise (mainly when dynamics is set to forte or during timpani roll), but other istruments seem fine after changing the sample rate.

Yes, I also think it's clipping. In one score I solved it by changing forte to mezzoforte and than turning volume of timpani all the way up in the mixer. In other one I had to pan timpani to the left channel only. And in last score I had to remove them completely and replace them with bass drum because it was unbearable.
Is there more elegant solution to this?

You say you lowered the sample rate. Did you mean "bit rate"? Did you do that in the advanced sound settings? Did you also uncheck "Exclusive mode"? You might need to lower the bit rate another notch.

Yes, I lowered bit rate (16 bits, 44100 Hz) and can't go any lower. I did it in advanced sound settings and also unchecked exclusive mode. But the problem still goes on.

I have found that setting the bit rate as low as it will go can make things worse. Do you have an SSD?

Sorry, my mistake. I checked again and properly and found out I have HDD and SSD and MS4 is running on SSD. In other words, I have strong gaming PC so there shouldn't be problem with the hardware.

As a gamer you know that it isn't just about how powerful your computer is. It's how you set it up, also. There are some people with i9's, 64 gig of ram and huge SSDs that have trouble. Until they find that one setting that makes it work. It might be something simple. It might take a bit of digging. There is no clicking on my system. Because of that, it is hard to say what is causing it. Is it at all possible that this is the result of some interaction between sounds on your system. Perhaps try muting a channel at a time to see if it goes away.

I'm using an HDD and MS4 has always works fine for me (Windows 10, 8GB RAM). Also, should it really be "MU4" not "MS4?"

That's excellent that it works for you. Does that include very large scores? Muse sounds, also.
I don't think it make much difference. Even if we use M4 or v4 You know what Is being referred to.

I'm not entirely sure what qualifies as "very large..." It's fine for everything I've ever needed it for (my largest MS4 score may be 12 parts and 18 pages or 23 parts and 12 pages, just looking at the score list). Muse Sounds works and so do VSTs.

The score works perfectly (sounds great too). Honestly, I can't really see any reason that an SSD would improve performance enough to make it unusable without it. It would maybe affect launch times and save/load times slightly, but that's true for anything, not just MuseScore.

Thanks for trying that score. Interesting. What are your other specs? Have you had to make any of the adjustments in the How To...in the Handbook section?
My older computer will play the above score. But if I stop playback during a loud section, there will be some "echos" of the last note played.
I put SSD's in all my older computers. They are so much faster for everything. I used to get slowdowns due to 100% disc usage. Boot time went from almost a minute to 17 seconds. Flight Simulator actually worked.
My new computer has no problems with playback. It has a more powerful CPU.

I'm not saying that SSDs aren't faster and better. I'm just saying that MuseScore 4 has worked perfectly for me, even though I don't have one. I don't think I've changed any MuseScore settings at all, except for changing some of the folder locations. I don't have the echo problem (although it's possible that I did but it was fixed in an update; I'm not entirely sure).

Don't waste any more time. I have a tired old laptop more than 8 years old. Since I had the CD drive removed and replaced with a SSD, the machine is rejuvenated and now runs Mu4 without problems.

Is there some reason that they couldn't just replace the HDD? I did it myself on my older laptop. I still have a use for the CD drive.
