Beam defaults for a jazz swing score
I'm trying to change the default beaming style to give me the pattern in the first two beats as opposed to the default which is as seen in the second two beats.
I've tried the beam settings under the time signature settings but that dose't seem to make a difference.

Select the time signature and open the time signature properties.
The default setting can be seen here:
Then click on the third and seventh eighth notes to get this:
You can also create a second 4/4 time signature with these settings for the future.
At least this works with MuS 3, which I used to create the images.

Thanks for this it's very helpful, but I want the notes to be beamed together if all four are present and only split if the first eigth is a rest.
So this:

becomes this:
![rest.jpg]( "rest.jpg")
but this:
![all.jpg]( "all.jpg")
remains unaltered. All as the default behaviour.

But consider using/setting shortcut keys for the beaming options you use most. I have \ for Break beam left, | for Join beams and [Ctrl] \ for No beam. You can then skip through the piece breaking and joining beams with ease without needing to use the mouse much.

I think there is a discussion somewhere on the forum about making beaming cleverer for cases like this where a beamed group has its first note replaced by a rest. There may be a github feature request. If not, there probably should be. It is not just "jazz swing scores" that would benefit from such a feature. I guess a first step would be to identify exactly what cases need to be considered.
