How do I write chant without measures or time signatures?

Comments

I have a fair amount of experience on this topic, and would be delighted to help.
First off, what sort of chant, or chant notation, were you thinking of? If you want Solesmes-style neumes, you're SOOL. Were you thinking running eighth-notes, or unstemmed black (and white) noteheads? Both those styles are relatively simple.
I may not be able to get back to you till tomorrow, though.

Hi bobjp! I create, save, and load Style files all the time, but I've never bothered with Templates. Just now, when I tried to create a new score using "Liturgical Non-metrical" template, it gave me a (G-)tenor clef, no time signature, and 32 bars (with bar-lines) of default 4/4 time.* Not all that useful. Continuing in the score set-up dialogue would allow me to alter the number of measures and time signature, but not to create an unmeasured, barless expanse. This was in both 3.6 and 4.3. Am I missing something?

*This was completely at odds with what the preview in the template dialogue box showed, BTW.
