Muse Sounds seem to have become unavailable

• Aug 7, 2024 - 01:55

Today I opened up MuseScore and I was a little surprised when the playback seemed... kinda just bad. It had switched for some reason from Muse Sounds to the more generic MuseScore Basic.
I really want MuseScore to use Muse Sounds, because they just sound so freaking good! So, to troubleshoot this new issue, I went to View > Playback setup. It claimed that Muse Sounds was still active, even though what the program was playing back was distinctly midi.
I then tried to switch to MuseScore Basic and back, because something similar in the past happened and that solved the problem. However, upon switching to MuseScore Basic, the Muse Sounds option became grayed out and I wasn't able to select it to reactivate Muse Sounds (screenshot below).
Why might this be? Is there something going on behind the scenes that for some reason makes Muse Sounds unavailable? I hope whatever is going on that I can get this figured out; I already miss the almost real quality that came with MuseScore 4.

I've seeing the same problem. It's odd because musescore is seeing that there are musesounds and the 'muse sampler library' is detected (I'm seeing version 0.99.5) but the musesounds playback is greyed out as you said.

I'm guessing this is a problem on the MuseHub side? They have been having some issues with access lately. I'm not positive though.

Does anybody know of a fix to this?

I just went back to try again, and mysteriously it worked. I switched to Musescore Basic, and then it actually did let me switch back to Muse Sounds after that and it worked alright.
I wonder if it is just on the MuseHub side or if it has to do with connecting to something external. That seems the only logical explanation for it working when the only difference is that I came back later. Either way, I'm glad it works now, but I also hope it doesn't end up being a problem in the future.
