"not responding" + "your score cannot be saved the system cannot find the file specified."
As stated in the Subject line:
-
As a long time finale user now in refugee status I gravitated towards Musescore.
My first project was a string quartet ~450 measures.
While entering the score i received repeated "not responding" interruptions to the point where they
took more time than note entry. -
The next day I opened the file to do some editing and make parts. The program gave me the second message above "your score cannot be saved....."
The program successfully opened the file from my computer but was not able to save edits.
I tried multiple approaches: opening the auto-backup file; closing without saving and re-opening (successfully). Nothing helps. I cannot save anything.

I have no problem opening this file - but I was using Musescore 3.7.
The latest version of Musescore is 4.4.0
New version can be faster. If not, there is no fix.

Opens fine for me, in MuseScore 4.4.0 on Windows 11
I have a simlar problem with MS 4.4.0 (Have been using MS since years and never had serious problems, but now for any MS file I try to load from my PC, I get the message 'cannot find your file' and below that 'the file is not existing or currently available.' Very annoying...
I presume I will have to re-install the prior version?

"I presume I will have to re-install the prior version?"
I doubt that will help. It would make more sense to work out why this is happening.
On the face of it, this sounds like a permissions problem with the score file or its owning folder.
Or possibly a problem with the storage medium beginning to fail?
Can you navigate to the score file using File Explorer (Windows) or Finder (MacOS)? Does the file really exist on disk?

MuS 4.4.0 has a problem with non-ASCII characters in the file name or file path. Are you sure this is not happening?
If yes: Drag the file into the Musescore window or use "File -> Open".
