I want to have multiple rests grouped under 1 rest with number rest above. But when trying the function under "style", can not select number of rests together ( selection is in grey , not black). using latest musescore version.
They can be used on the full score too, but are less likely to have an effect there, as usually a full score doesn't have empty subsequent measures in all staves

I think you are saying you want to see multimeasure rests Their display can be toggled on and off by keyboard shortcut M.
See https://musescore.org/en/handbook/4/measure-rests-and-multimeasure-rests
[Edit] As per the handbook article, the shortcut is now since version 4.4 CTRL+SHIFT+M.

If you're in the full score, it may be disabled because I believe the multi-measure rest can only apply to parts (???)
