Piano Staves Don't Playback
Hello,
Why don't the piano staves playback? Even when I make an MP3, the piano staves don't playback. If I copy the piano parts to the trumpet and alto sax staves, the copied parts playback. Of the many songs I have composed, this is the only score that does this. I believe I am using Musescore 3.0.
Regards,
Thom

The piano part plays for me, both in the MuseScore application and in an exported .MP3 file.
You can identify the version of MuseScore you have installed by clicking on Help / About Musescore. Provide that information and the equivalent info about your computer's operating system as well.

3.0

3.0 is antediluvian. Go to at least 3.6.2 (or my 3.7),iof you want to stay on 3.x, to 4.4.4 otherwise
It plays for me too.
Try 'Edit -> Preferences -> I/O -> Restart Audio and MIDI Devices'.
Or at least it should have entries in 'API' and 'Device'.

I did 'Edit -> Preferences -> I/O -> Restart Audio and MIDI Devices. Piano still doesn't play. API: MME. Device: Speakers (Realtek (R) Audio). My work around worked ok. I copied the piano staves to trumpet and A sax and changed those to sound like a piano, actually, strings. Worked great after I thought of doing that.
Hello, I notice that if you have a stave selected it will only play that stave and if you deselect it plays all staves. Does this happen to you?

This is new in Musescore 4. The TO uses Musescore 3 and this is not the case there.

When you have a score with multiple staves, you can select any consecutive group of them (click on the first staff, then Shift+c;lick on the last one) and all of those selected staves will play. For example, if you have a standard orchestral score, you could select all the strings and listen only to them, or all the woodwinds, or brass, etc.

Good trick but it doesn't solve my problem with this particular score.

All instruments are selected to play. None ore muted. I noticed if I click on a note in the piano part before playing the score, the piano part plays but the piano part does not play on the MP3. If I start with a completely blank, fresh score and copy the various instruments onto the new score, the piano part will not play.

How about if you enter the piano part from scratch? Or maybe enter the first two measures from scratch. If that plays, try C+P the next few measures from the OE score. If that works, try the rest of the part.

Good ideas. Unfortunately, I tried that before I reached out to the forum. Didn't work. I had to copy the piano staves to the trumpet and a sax staves and change those stave to sound like a piano. That worked. Keep in mind that this score is one in a hundred. So, not that big of a deal. Problem is, I needed to show someone the piece with an MP3.

Dear Forum,
Eureka! I changed the "sound" of the piano from Strings Fast Exps (which is what the piano staff was originally set to) to Celli Fast and it plays beautiful strings EVERY time I open it. Thank you for your kind attention to this issue.
In His Name,
