NOTE iNPUT QUERY ON 4.5 MUSESCORE
Having a problem adding an extra note with 4.5 musescore.
No problem with with version 3.0 and 4.0 and this feature still works on version 3
Before you just used the dropdown box added a note in any bar
The toogle input by name ,By note name that is next to it now.
How does that work regarding adding an extra note
Highlights above the bar what it does not sure.
Still finding out everything about Musescore
Much appreciate any advice please

I'll bet you a coin you're talking about the Insert mode. Access to these alternative input modes, since version 4.5, has changed location.
It's now in the drop-down list via the toolbar's central cogwheel - image below. By default, only the first two modes "Input by note name" and "Input by duration" are displayed.
For the others, simply click on the eye icon of the desired input mode. They will then appear in the toolbar.

Ok, I love Celtic music so much...
For the record, a shortcut is available for entering in Insert Mode: Ctrl/Cmd + I. It's a toggle... just don't forget to use this shortcut right away, or you'll end up with an extended measure.. :)

Hi Mikey
The post from Cadiz 1 explained it you need to input notes via the Cogwheel in the Tool bar now.
You click on the Eye Icon and can input notes that way, sorry if i was.nt clear enough thanks

Thanks to both of you. But I still don't understand. The measure has to have the correct number of beats, so, to add (or insert) a note will change the duration of an adjacent note to balance. I'd still like to see a picture, so I can see what you did, and learn!

It has always been possible to insert extra notes into a bar. The OP says they get some scores that need a note added. Bluegrass being strict beat wise, I have to believe some of the scores they get ( probably PDF or mxl) have measures that are short a beat by mistake. So you either insert a note or correct the measure in measure properties and add a note.

A number of years ago, I sang with a synagogue choir. The cantor was mid-eastern, and it wasn’t uncommon for him to drop a beat or two, and stick them back in somewhere else. Not so easy for a western trained choir to follow!

Hi Mikey
In Celtic music you will see bars which have an added triplet or an extra note
.If you go o to the Customize Toolbar as Cadiz 1 mentioned see his screen shot
You need to click on the eye feature it will appear on the toolbar as a note and plus sign
The insert note feature will appear beside the input icon on the toolbar
When its highlighted add an extra note onto the last beat in the bar or as many as you like
If you want to beam notes together go to Beam properties on the Pallette or Master Pallete
Highlight join beams together or break beams are just two of the features
