Using a style file in preferences
I use a one music line per page style file. I have it set for loading XML files in the preferences on the import section.
I still have to load it by hand - load style etc.
I notice that this feature is not mentioned in the github edition of the manual in the 'working with musicXML' section.
I am also wondering if there is any way to get Musescore to change every instance of a rest into a rest and line break.

How does that style file look, please attach here.
This style file for imports is indeed not mentioned in https://musescore.org/en/handbook/4/working-musicxml-files#MusicXML_imp…, but it is in https://musescore.org/en/handbook/4/preferences#import
If that doesn't work, rport it on GitHub, https://github.com/musescore/MuseScore/issues/new/choose
No idea what you mean by change every instance of a rest into a rest and line break
How is that supposed to look?

Based solely on the description, like this:
But I'm skeptical :-)

He could actually mean page break. Otherwise there would be more than one line per page. And there might not be any rests.

The music is plainsong. The verses each end with a rest. And every verse occupies 1 to 4 lines depending on the number of syllables. I am designing it for small surfaces like an iPhone, (though it is iffy). Itwould read better on a tablet. It is designed for learning and my process is essentially manual at this point. I am finished about half of the 23,000 verses. (say 50,000 svg files) It takes from 10 minutes to a hour to do one chapter, 400 or so to go. So every saved click is saved time.

yes -- page break = line break -- apologies and thanks for all the clarifications. I spent my life managing software development-- I know how hard it is to get a good problem definition.

Style file attached -- it loads fine by hand. Here's a sample XML file too. It could be that the XML is overriding the style file. I could suppress the page sizes in it.

OK, seems a bug to me, feel free to report it on GitHub

What seems to be the bug? That a style file doesn't govern the load or that git hub has omitted this function in the document?
I don't know anything about github and have no experience or account there. If this is a software bug, doesn't it belong here on this conversation? If it's a documentation bug I would expect it to be caught by walkthrough on sign-in.
Over to the experts please
Thanks for the testing

It is a bug that on xml import the configured style file isn't applied.
