notation help
In the following image I have notes shown in parenthesese, these are the notes you would use for the lyrics that are underneath them. What is the proper way to engrave these?

Use a 2nd voice
Or use only those quarter notes and tie them, make the ties dotted or dashed to indicata that they don't always apply, and use melisma dashes or underscores for the corresponding lyrics
