Stretching woes
Every time I've tried "Add less stretch", it does a fair job bringing things closer together but I end up with odd bits of music falling off the staff at the end of each system. This can't be normal, can it?

Well, it is normal... you could try to select just those last measures and to the 'add less stretch' on it.
I have found that when it happens it means you're trying to squeeze too much into the staff. In this case the lyrics are too wide.
