Serious problems with MuseScore 4 files

Serious problems with MuseScore 4 files. When pressing play (with a score full of notes), there is an automatic, random sequence of notes that began to play that I cannot stop without force quitting the program. Sometimes the notes form in a vertical pattern - sometimes in a horizontal pattern. I'm not using any audio effects plug-ins, though they are available in the plug-ins folder .
