Unwanted text in footers

I posted this to general discussion because I thought I was doing something wrong, but it was thought to be a bug.

I wanted to change the font and size of my footer text (just a page number). I did this in Style/Text, but it resorts to Lucida Grande. I changed the script in my footer to $P, but it still doesn't work, and that text appears in the footer on my file. (You won't be able to see what I've typed because I can't see it in the preview, it seems to be thinking it's an HTML tag, but you can see it in the screen shot below).

Also, when I open the file, additional text has been added to the footer.
