First Proper Music Composition

• Dec 26, 2009 - 16:49

As the subject says, this is the first time I compose music properly (I only write notes in alphabetical form on a piece of paper before) and also using MuseScore. It is made by instinct without any solid (or maybe even basic) knowledge of music. I hope that I can get some feedback on this.

I have a few suggestions to help you improve the piece of music.
1) Give the recorder an accompaniment (a piano or even a second recorder). A solo recorder doesn't have much flavor. Or you could change the key in the piece, give the recorder some arpeggios (Sorry I don't have time to do some example).
2) Around bar 162-168 it sounds like you are about to change into a minor, but you don't. I would change into minor around there.
3) Make some variations on your theme. Your current theme is very nice but it just needs that little variation to add more flavor.
4) Don't hold notes on for too long. It will make the player run out of breath and It sounds blank with out anything accompanying it. Put a broken chord or an arpeggio.
5) You could add grace notes and ornaments. They can sound really nice.
You don't have to listen to me but that is what I would do with the piece.
Cheers
