Viola is out of tune

• Dec 29, 2009 - 21:13

Hi,

I've been noticing lately that the voila can be horribly out of tune sometimes. My favorite thing to write for is string quartet so this can ruin some passages. I attached a file to show how it can be out of tune.

The viola being out of tune is just too realistic. J/k, I just love viola jokes.

It is very subtle but I do hear that it starts a little high and then settles into the correct pitch in your sample. I also notice that your sample has a much more legato viola. The viola in my sample has a stronger articulation at the beginning of each the note.

I am confused about why our samples sound different.

Yea, that is strange. I just double checked my sythesizer and I am using FluidR3_GM.sf2 like I thought.

I'll give you a run down of some of my preferences... maybe those are messed up. They're all default settings except one.

In the general tab, there's an instrument list setting but I think that's for language purposes not sound. Anyway, this is what that's set to: /usr/share/mscore/templates/instruments.xml.

In the I/O tab, I have:
Use internal sythesizer
ALSA Audio
Device: hw:0 (had to change from "default" to "hw:0")
Sample rate: 48000
Fragments: 3
Period Size: 1024
