ties on long chords not working
I have an organ passage where I want to hold a chord for a very long time. If I simply copy/paste the same chords many measures forward and place a tie, during play the sound does not tie beyond a few measures (seems like a max of 4 measures). For a organ, I should be able to specify a very long tie, yes? How do I accomplish this?

What you have created is not standard notation, so MuseScore does not know what to do with it. You need to repeat the whole notes in every measure; you don't tie over rests. There *is* a feature that allows ties to be connected to notes that are not strictly adjacent, but it is not meant to cover cases like this.
In any case, do be aware that the primary purpsoe of MsueScore is notation, not playback. It's to be expected that some things you can notate might not play back exactly as you want, although many things do. But FWIW, I think human musicians would be equally confused by your score.

thanks for your cogent answer. I demonstrate my novice abilities by not knowing that a human player would not understand my notation, which is a critical point!
Well, don't get me wrong - they'd probably figure it out. But it definitely isn't standard. So they'd wonder, for sure.
