Changing note lengths in a chord
When changing a chord of, say, semiquavers (sixteenth notes) to quavers (eighth notes), why does it only work if you select a single note? I know it is easier to select the single note rather than the whole chord, but selecting the chord feels more intuitive.

Good questions. MuseScore makes a distinction betwene a single selection and a mulpiple selection (actually two types of the latter - list and range). The change duration command only works for single selection, as results could be awkward if you selected notes that might overlap after a duration change. At least I assume that's the reason. Anyhow, a chord is not a single selection. I suppose special casing to be added to detect multiple selections in which everything selected belongs to the same chord. But isn't selecting a single note *easier* than selecting a chord?

If you want to select notes on multiple staves, it is easier to select all the notes using [Shift] and left mouse drag to lasso all the notes than to [Ctrl] left mouse click a note on each staff.

Ah, now this is true, but it wouldn't help anyhow - you can't change duration for notes on multiple staves no matter how you select them. Change duration works only with a single selection - a single note on a single staff. So even if we spoecial cased a single chord on a single staff, that isn't going to help if you are wanting to change durations on multiple staves.
