play midi piano

Hello

(re)Starting this question in a new thread.

Windows XP
Midi keyboard: Roland PC200.
Midi adapter: USB Midi Mate
Soundfont: Realfont_2_1.sf2
Soudcard in PC: Soundblaster 128.

I get sounds in play mode and in note entry mode.
But I expected to hear the piano i ALL modes. So that I can test my tune/chords before entering them.

In fact, I expected sound coming out from the computer when I play the midi-piano whether I have opened Musescore or not !
Could that be a Windows XP problem?

Your keyboard does not have sounds in it right? With mine, I can hear the keyboard sound from the keyboard.
You could try to use a virtual midi driver to route your Keyboard output to your soundcard synth.
I use LoopBe1 (for other purposes)

well, now I downloaded and installed LoopBe1.
Apparently no changes, but I am not sure how to handle LoopBe1, since there is no user manual.
Looking at their website, it looks as if you should be able to get some screens to choose application 1 and application 2. - up to 8 channels.
The only one I can get is a mute/not mute screen. (?)

How should Musescore I/O look? And how should Windows XP Sound-preferences look?

So again, can anyone help?

Hello

Now I installed Midi Yoke.
Control panel shows a Myokent-icon, and add/remove software tells me that a program is installed.
However, I have nowhere to start the program ??

Should I also install the midi-ox program to make it work?

Sorry, but it really seems complicated to me.

In next MuseScore version, you'll be able to hear your keyboard even if not entry mode. You'll be able to test this in next nightly version, tomorrow.
I don't know MidiYoke but plan to test it and yes I think you need midiox to do the actual routing.

Don't think of midi yoke as a program per se, it's more of a device specifically a cable. How I have used it in the past is to select midi yoke as the output device in one program (score writer) and also the input device in another program software synth. I'm not sure how this would be accomplished in MuseScore, which tends to be stingy with what midi properties it allows the user to set manually.
Midi Ox is also a good utility to have. it will let you send midi messages manually or see exactly what is coming through.

Hello

OK - in nightly 2892 I can now hear the piano, whether in note entry or not. And happy for that !

But.. now the next question: why is it that I can only hear one piano-key at a time and not a chord? and why only a short sound and not as long as the key is pressed down?

Should I have a piano with it's own sound and output (for headphones) to do that?

this is my question as well...

i've been looking & looking and so far, can't find an answer to this question.

it seems like a pretty big flaw that you can only hear 1 note at a time when you play your midi keyboard. that really limits you when you're trying to arrange a score and you need to hear how things sound before actually committing notes to the sheet.

any help is MUCH appreciated!! if it's not possible i may have to go back to finale notepad, which was driving me up the wall...

edit - answered in another thread... not possible in current version. sorry for the repeat.
