Alto Flute playback

• Mar 26, 2015 - 21:39

From the Italian forum (http://musescore.org/it/node/52791#comment-246296 ) a score for alto flute:
written with 1.3 play the notes correctly;
with 2.0 play an octave above.
We do something wrong?

I'm a bit confused, but it looks like maybe you picked the wrong instrument? It appears you picked the "treble flute" instrument rater than the "alto flute".

Thank you Marc for your intervention. Indeed the behaviour of the instrument (Flauto in Sol in my Musescore 2.0 in Italian) seems to correspond to the "treble flute", a rare instrument.
In my version 1.3 this did not happen, but I note that in my version 1.3 in Italian the list of instruments is written in English, and I find Alto Flute, not "Flauto in Sol".
Anyhow italian musicians intend for "Flauto in Sol" exactly Alto Flute.
In Musescore 2.0, when I choose the instruments for my score, I find, for flutes: Ottavino (piccolo), Flauto (Flute) - Flauto in Sol, which in italian means Alto Flute, but its behaviour seems like treble flute
Now the problem I have to solve is how to operate in order to include in the instruments of my score the Alto Flute (in Italian called Flauto in Sol), which has to play (transposing) a fourth down of the written note.
Can you help me?
Thanks for your cooperation and best regards.
Roberto

Alto Flute would not show up in the default list under "Common instruments". It only shows up under "Orchestral instruments", "Jazz instruments", or "Common instruments". Under "Jazz instruments" it should directly underneath the regular "Flute". Under "Orchestral instruments", it should go Flute, Soprano Flute, Alto Flute. And under "All instruments", the list should go Flute, Treble Flute, Soprano Flute, Sub-contra Alto Flute, Alto Flute. Maybe that helps you find it? I'm not sure if the translations have errors or what; you might consider contacting whomever did the Italian translation (post in the Translation forum, maybe).

Anyhow, no matter what, you can always right click the staff, select Staff Properties, and set "Play transposition" to "perfect fourth down" to get the proper transposition for alto flute.
