NWC conversion problem

• Jun 5, 2010 - 09:45

I'm using 0.9.6 with Windows XP and I am successfully converting my many NWC scores to MuseScore by exporting from NWC as a text file and converting the text file to .xml using the excellent facility at http://nwc2musicxml.appspot.com/

However, I've come unstuck on one particular 6 stave score for choir (SATB) and piano which is in the key of A flat major and in 5/4 time with some passages in 4/4 time and 3/4 time. After the conversion all staves except the tenor voice stave appear in E major not the original A flat major, with only the tenor stave remaining in the original A flat major, and all staves except the piano bass clef stave appear in 4/4 time not the original 5/4 time, with the piano bass stave appearing in 3/4 time. None of the time signature changes in the piece are picked up in the conversion. Not surprisingly, playback in MuseScore is a complete mess, and simply correcting the conversion errors in MuseScore makes no difference.

I'm not too bothered about this one score not converting properly, but would welcome any suggestions as to why the conversion might be going so horribly wrong. I should add that all my other NWC scores have converted perfectly.

I didn't want to post the whole score so I copied its first few bars into new satves to post here. I checkd that trhe conversion problem was still there on the copied bars and guess what, it wasn't, it converted OK. So what I'm going to do now is copy a few more bars each time until I hit the part of the score which is obviously throwing the whole conversion out. Thanks for your offer to look at this for me, but now that I have something to work on I won't waste your time. If I find some definite aspect or function of NWC that throws the conversion out I'll post it here.

Thanks again.

I spoke too soon. It seems that unlayering the staves has only sorted out the key signatures, which now convert correctly, but it doesn't seem to have sorted out the time signatures which still are not converting properly. I attach the first few bars of the nwc score zipped as suggested, (thanks for the steer), I've deleted the tenor and bass voice staves to make things a bit simpler, and just left the soprano and one alto voice with the piano. If you run the conversion routine you'll see that the 5/4 time comes out as 4/4 or sometimes 3/4, the 4/4 and 3/4 time signatures are not picked up in the conversion and the piano staves are corrupted. I can't find a reason for this and any suggestions would be welcome becasue I'd like to get this score into MuseScore if I can.

Thanks.
