Diamond head harmonic symbol for guitar

• Jun 11, 2015 - 13:27

The small diamond harmonic symbol for classical guitar (which goes above or below the note) is not provided by default in the articulations palette.

There is one buried in the symbols section of the master palette which does the job. But it needs to be dragged to the score rather than double clicked. Could this be altered so that the user can double click the harmonic symbol onto the score?

Non-classical guitar scores seem to favour the diamond notehead (black or white depending on note value) rather than the diamond symbol. But there is a problem with the diamond notehead in the notehead palette, so a workaround is currently needed. You have to set the actual notehead to invisible and drag a black or white diamond from the symbols palette.

I don't understand what you mean that it can't be double clicked. It works fine for me. You do have to click the note you wish to apply it to first, maybe you are skipping that step?

BTW, the bug with the bad stem alignment is fixed in the development builds, so it should be in the 2.0.2 release when that happens. Also, there is now also an easy way to search for symbols (thanks, lasconic!) so typing "diamond" in the symbols palette found me the relevant glyphs quickly.

I also realised that when you make a note head invisible, and it is the only note on a series of leger lines, the leger lines disappear as well! So substituting the head with a "glyph" from the symbols palette doesn't work in this case. It does seem a bit strange to leave a headless note-stem above the staff with no leger lines to support it.

When you say the bad stem alignment has been fixed, does that mean that all the noteheads (including the diamond) in the notehead palette will display correctly in the next release?
