Wood blocks metronome
Ok, I need a step by step instructions on how to create metronome clicks in the wood blocks line, as I've understood that Musescore lacks the very basic feature of a metronome clicks on the background. So far nothing I've tried has worked.
I've created a line for the wood blocks, I can change the length of the rests, but I can't get the actual wood block sound at all. Even in the note input mode, clicking the notes on the top bar do absolutely nothing. Mashing the keyboard with both hands at the same time will give some notes, but they sound *nothing* like wood blocks.
The manual is totally useless for this. It doesn't say anything about wood blocks, for percussion lines it talks about a drum palette, which I haven't been able to find anywhere in the program. I tried clicking everything I could find on the wood block line, but I didn't see a menu item for it. I've also clicked every item in the top bar menu, but the drum palette was nowhere to be found there either.
This is unnecessarily difficult, so I think there should be a step by step tutorial for creating a wood block tick line, as it seems I'm not the only one needing a metronome on the background. Or better yet, post a musescore file that has a filled wood block line, so that we could copy/paste from it. Creating one from scratch appears to be next to impossible otherwise.

The best way would probably be to click the button that looks like a metronome (third button from top left if you haven't rearranged the toolbars). ;-)
As to rest of it, it sounds like you missed a few things when you looked through the Handbook—otherwise you wouldn't be trying to add notes just by clicking on the toolbar. However, the page on percussion notation was very poorly written—I've just now tried to clarify it. The relevant pages here are Note input (essential reading!) and Drum notation . It's all there—for example, "Press N to begin—please note that the drum input palette will only appear at the bottom of the screen when you have completed this step."

I couldn't find any metronome button either, but now I noticed that there's a new version of Musescore available, so maybe it's there. The version I've been using is 1.3.
Oh, and thanks for the patient reply and sorry for my tone in the original post, I was just really frustrated.

Ah, yes—the metronome is a new feature in MuseScore 2. In fact, there are more ways than one that my response was based on the assumption that you were using MuseScore 2; in MuseScore 1.3, for example, the drum palette didn't appear at the bottom of the screen when in note input mode—it was always there on the left, in among the regular palettes, even though it couldn't be used except for percussion staves.
If you can, I highly recommend upgrading your MuseScore as soon as possible (though there's actually expected to be a new version released within a week from now, so you could either upgrade twice in one week or wait a little bit until MuseScore 2.0.2 comes out). It sounds like the metronome alone will save you a lot of hassle.
Oh, and don't worry—I'm not proud of it, but I've been in the same boat, and I've reacted the same way. Frustration is tough. You're forgiven. ;-)
