Lyrics can be edited as normal text with the exception of a few characters. If you want to add a space, hyphen or underscore to a single syllable then use the following shortcuts.

Ctrl+Space (Mac: ⌥+Space) enters a space into the lyrics text

Wrong. Should be Ctrl + Shift + Space for windows (don't know for Mac)

What do you mean ? Is the shortcut wrong in the documentation or wrong in the software ?

Ctrl + Space does work as documented on Windows Vista MuseScore 0.9.6.2.

Documentation is wrong.
Bug is for documentation, that's why it describes documentation bug.

I've tested it on both systems.
For Windows XP and Windows 2003 - doesn't work Ctrl+Space. Works only Ctrl+Shift+Space.
For Windows Vista - works Ctrl+Space.

So may be remark should be added to help.

It was discovered on Windows XP with Russian system language and Russian keyboard language.
But also was reproduced on Windows 2003 with English system language and English keyboard language.

Does Ctrl+Space work for you on the English keyboard? Does it work on the Russian keyboard?

For me, both shortcuts work (Ctrl+Space and Ctrl+Shift+Space).

For Mac OS, to insert a space between lyrics without moving to the next note, use option+space. In some Mac keyboards, the "option" key is also called/labelled as "alt". Works well in Musescore 2.0.2
