drum notes mixed with normal notes
Is it possible to put drum notes on the same as normal notes? I would like to avoid having to introduce another stave, just for the few percussion beats that I want to introduce.

There is not currently a way to literally change staff types mid-score, although it's being considered for the future.
Meanwhile, though, you can use the noteheads palette or the Inspector to replace a notehead with a cross or whatever other notehead you like, you can also disable the plaback in Inspector or use "Instrument" text to change the playback to a drum temporarily.
