MuseScore 2.0.2 doesn't work on my Windows 10

• Aug 13, 2015 - 09:51

Recently, I upgraded my computer to Windows 10. Although, there was no problem at first, after the computer did some automatic updates, it doesn't allow me to run MuseScore anymore. However, the program is still installed in my computer; I checked the control panel, and the program files, and nothing seems to have gone. I know I can just re-download the re-install the program, but I had personalized it in many ways, and a long time ago, so I can't remember all of them. Is there any compatibility problem with Windows 10, or is it just my computer's problem? And if I have to re-install the program, is there any way to restore my personalization options? Thanks in advance.

re-installing would not affect your personal setting in any form or shape. But those may be the problem, so you may need a factory reset (rather than a new install)

Trying to use settings originally made with an experimantal prerelease version like beta 1 would be the cause for lots of problems. You really do need to revert to factory settings in order to avoid all sorts of issues.

What personalizations are you concerned about? Really the only thing I can think of that you might have spent more than a minute on was keyboard shrotcuts. It would, I suppose, be possible to edit the INI file directly and copy the old shortcuts before reverting, then paste them into the new file. but some of the commands have possibly changed names, plus there are new commands, etc - that's part of why it is be important to revert in the first place.

First of all, thank you for your answer and I'm sorry about the title. So, when I double click on the MuseScore icon, or on any of my scores, a windows dialogue appears which says: "The item 'MuseScore.exe' that this shortcut refers to has been changed or moved, so this shortcut will no longer work properly. Do you want to delete this shortcut?" and I have to choose between "yes" or "no". Do you think that there may be a problem with the shortcut? Should I create a new one, and if yes, how? Thanks in advance. I don't know what that portable version of MuseScore is, but I'm downloading it right now and I'll let you know the results.

When I was re-installing, the installation wizard asked me to choose between 3 options, which I can't remember right now, except for the one I chose, which was to repair MuseScore. After the process was done. I tried to open one of my scores and now a new window dialogue popped up, saying that "the parameter is incorrect"; the same thing happened when I tried to run MuseScore itself, from a new shortcut that was created, during the installation process. What should I do now?

Navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\MuseScore2\bin\

Ensure you have Filename Extensions turned on in the View Ribbon

Find MuseScore.exe and right click it

Check the option Pin to Start (you can also pin to taskbar if you so wish)

You should have MuseScore back.

Incidentally Windows 10 removed Musescore 2 from the start menu, all programs list and taskbar shortly after it was installed on my machine.

Since performing the above remedial action I have had no further trouble........ yet!

Ok, first things first, I uninstalled and re-installed MuseScore, but the same thing happens again. When I try to launch MuseScore or one of my scores, a dialogue appears saying that "the parameter is incorrect". Micheal, I tried your advice, as well. Although I had already pinned MuseScore both to start and to the taskbar, I unpinned them and re-pinned them, but that made no difference at all. I even restarted my computer, but that made no difference, as well. I really don't know what's wrong, but this started occurring right after those Windows 10 updates were installed and I believe, that that's the problem.

I think I found what the problem is. Panda Internet Security 2015, the antivirus software I use, has just informed me that it detected and defeated a virus, in this particular file: C:\Program Files (x86)\MuseScore2\bin\. I don't know what caused the virus, but now when I try to launch MuseScore, it says that "Windows is searching for MuseScore.exe" and the dialogue is entitled "Missing Shortcut". I'll unpin and re-pin musescore to the taskbar and see if that'll make things right.

Hi Kosris,

Could you do us a favour and report this false positive result to the Panda company? Here is the link:

It either requires your client number or the email address that Panda has on file from you. That's why I can't report this false positive.

Here is what you can fill in:

Brief description of the incident:
False positive: MuseScore.exe

Detailed description:
Panda is falsely identifying MuseScore.exe as malware. You can download the MuseScore binary for Windows from
