How to span a beam over an included rest?

I have the following rhythm: eighth-note, eighth-note, eighth-rest, eighth-note. I would like to beam from the first note to the last, with the eighth-rest spanned by the beam as if it were a note. MS 2.0.0 wants to beam only the first two notes; if I try to drag a "middle" beam symbol onto the second note, nothing happens. Is there a way to do this? It seems to me that a spanning beam makes the rhythm clearer to read.
