MS.com cuts off score

• Sep 3, 2015 - 23:47

Over and over i tried to upload my completed score of Rondo Capriccio to MS.com Every time, MS.com cuts it on pg.4. My MS.PC score IS complete in 4 pages. I have NEVER had MS.com do anything like this before. It seems MS.com does not have enough room in 4 pages??! TechkMystsries again. Lots of them today. RONDO CAPRICCIO 2.mscz

It's one of those scores that is just on the cusp when it comes to the number of pages used as the layout is updated. Minor changes affect whether it takes up four pages or five. MuseScore re-paginates everything at the last moment as it interprets the score and adjusts the layout.

In the Title, reducing the number of spaces between RONDO and CAPRICCIO changes it from five pages to four but as soon as you finish doing this you go back to five again. Then when I go to Bar 39 and flip the direction of the tie on the G (top stave) it's back to four.In Bar 41 I flip the direction of the tie on the low D in the lower stave and it's back to five. After all that, if you select Bars 48 thru 53 and apply just a tiny bit of reduced stretch it goes back down to four and wants to stay there.

Very enjoyable piece, by the way.

Hi There, Thanks for your reply~! Very complicated and informative reply! In my case I often have trouble with involved techno stuff--I finally added 2 empty measures at the end, an it uploaded fine to MS.com! It now has 5 pages. Pg 5 mostly empty. I don't really like having 2 empty measures after the piece is over, but oh well. You can find it on search MS.com Hudson Rondo Capriccio. I am very happy you enjoyed the piece. I am playing it at a concert soon here in Colorado.Del Hudson
P.S. I just looked it up in MS.com I really dislike seeing those 2 emplty measures after the end--so, if I did all those operations you mentioned, it would fit in 4 pages? Or was your conclusion that it's not really possible? Thanks

When I download the score you attached to your post, it is 5 pages long - four full pages plus four bars on one system for page 5. However, the moment I do anything - even just a "select all" - it suddently shrinks down to four pages. This sort of layout shift was quite common in 1.3, but almost never happens in 2.0. The difference apparently starts at measure 10, which either fits on the second system or doesn't - as mentioned, the courtesy key signature is probably partially responsible for this. The method I described in my previous response is what you should do: add explicit line breaks using Add/Remove Line Breaks (using the option to add breaks to the end of each existing system), then reduce stretch by one notch. This is something I got in the habit of doing with all my scores in 1.3, because these shifts were quite common. I almost never see them any more, but your score proves it can still happen occasionally.

It is worth filing an actual bug report (use Help / Report a Bug from within MuseScore) to report this problem officially. If you ahve never filed an official bug report, it's no big deal - after going to Help / Report a Bug, you'll be taken directly to the Issue Tracker with some of the necessary information filled out already. Put "MuseScore" as the project, "Code" as the component, leave everything else unchanged, and then attach the score and give a brief description of the problem (eg, "load the attached score, press Cr+A, notice the layout changes every time you press it").

OK, I will do that, but right after the Labor Day Holiday-- I did set Line Breaks and reduced stretch by one notch -at least I clicked only once. No box came up or anything on stretch. Then I re-uploaded to MS.com. What happened was MS.com just put ii still in 5 pages, but also stretched one measure out across an entire page. So I just went back and deleted the line breaks and just re-uploaded it to MS.com with the 2 empty measures at the end and it did fine. At least it's up there for now. I do not have time to do any more with it till after Labor Day. OK, I will file an official bug report. Have never done it before.
