Tenor Toms and Bass Drums Sound Problem- Please Help

• Sep 9, 2015 - 01:19

I'm using Musescore
Version: 2.0.2
Revision: f51dc11
My operating system is Windows 10
https://musescore.com/user/1612476/scores/1186281
In my score,"Final Countdown" all the C notes(or whatever you would refer to that as) for the tenor drums(which I'm using in place of quads) sound like whistles. The E notes play correctly, but the A and F notes are silent. And with the bass drums, the C notes play fine, but the E notes sound like maracas(or also whistles when the notehead is an X). Also, the A and F notes don't play any sound for the bass drums either. There are multiple notes in one position being used at the same time for both the tenor and bass drums(via using multiple voices). I don't know if using multiple voices is the cause. I tried switching the affected notes to different voices. No success. I noticed it upon the last playback, and ended up switching soundfonts via the synthesizer to a marching percussion one. It seemed to work. I uploaded it not knowing the new soundfont wouldn't go with it, but I kept it up. Switched back to the default soundfont and deleted the other one from the synthesizer. I tried to fix it by messing with them in the mixer, but it changed them to other instruments(such as piano, brass section, not percussion, etc.). So I gave up and muted them and uploaded that. But I now unmuted it and updated the score so anyone willing to help me can get a better idea of what is happening.
Thanks in advanced! I really appreciate all your future help!

*THE SOUNDFONTS I USED WERE CALLED MikeScorschDrumLine AND MikeSchorschDrumLineXtra*

OK, I think I have sorted out your problem :)

The Mike Schorsch Drumline soundfonts are specialist soundfonts designed by Mike Schorsch for use with Drumline/Marching Percussion bands.

These instruments are not suitable for use with the standard GM/GS Drumsets, but must be used with one of the Mike Schorsch soundfonts otherwise you will get peculiar sounds coming from the GM set.

The difference between the two soundfonts is that the Xtra one has an extra set of cymbals which I added for a user that required this.

There should be keymaps of both soundfonts in the ZIP file. If not - let me know and I will rectify that.

So - when you have installed the MikeSchorsh Drumline soundfont of your choice, and added it to the Synthesiser page, make sure that it is the second soundfont in the list, otherwise it will turn the standard orchestral sounds into silent Pianos.

You then need to go into the Mixer and choose the relevant sound - you will find them right at the bottom of the list of drumkits in the mixer - so for your bass drum line choose 57 Marching Bass and for your Quad toms choose 95Tenor (a mistake in naming which I will be correcting shortly!)

PS - do you usually have 4 bass drums in your band??

Okay. I don't know how to use keymaps, but they are both there. I can however do what you said! But my question is, will doing this fix the problem with the default Musescore soundfont of the tenor toms and bass drums? I'm only asking because I had deleted the Mike soundfonts from the synthesizer(and yes, I did have them at the top.) and then the soundfonts folder entirely, and the problem persisted. I did however just now reinstall them.

Thank you for your help! I'll see if it works.

P.S. Not usually, but the school year has just started and the drumline may still be recruiting. I also didn't want it to sound bare.
