How can I upgrade to latest version??

• Jan 18, 2009 - 12:01

OK, I am relatively new to Ubuntu and am running 8.1 on my Acer Netbook (Aspire One). Great little machine and excellent software here with MuseScore! Thanks so much for a good product.

Now, I am running 0.9.0 so the front sheet tells me and want to get the latest possible version as the one I have is a tad 'buggy'. Can anyone help me with this please? The update manager tells me all is up to date but I see from the web that you guys have a later version available?

Again, despite little buggy bits here and there, it is great! Keep it up - I use this for scoring stuff written by members in our church music group...............

Thanks - pgiffo

In Ubuntu go to system > administration and find "software sources"

go to the "third party" tab and press add
in the dialog enter the line you see on this page: https://launchpad.net/~mscore-ubuntu/+archive
the line should look something like this: deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/mscore-ubuntu/ubuntu intrepid main
but go to the page to copy the line so you are sure to have the latest version. If you are running Ubuntu 8.1 you would want the intrepid repository.

After allowing the program to update its sources you will be prompted by the update manager that there are updates available.
It will probably show that they are not official Ubuntu releases so you have to do an extra confirm to install them.

This will install the latest pre-release, it might have a few bugs as well, but since it is beeing worked on as we speak any bugs you report in the forum here will probably be fixed quite soon. At least that is my experience.

I am a new comer, and I like this wonderful program (v.0.9.3). I have read that only v. 0.9.4 recognize inputting data directly from midi keybord. I would like
to update. I would appreciate very much if somebody could tell me where can I download this new version from.
Sorry, I cannot spek English well.
Thank you very muyh for your help.

Merci beaucoup, Robert,

That's very kind of you writing to me immediately.(:-)
I apologies for only English... (I have learnt a little German and in my youth
we were forced to learn Russian - mostly about Lenin and the Komsomol).
But I propose to learn French and some day visit to your beautiful country.

I use Windows XP. Meanwhile I have got the information from Thomas,
but I think of you also with gratefulness.

Thank you again.
Best regards

Thank you, Thomas,

I will follow your advice. How many kind people is in this forum!

I hope I can also help later to someone else. What could I do for anybody now?
I hope that this is not off-topic, and maybe it could be useful for somebody: I have found a very good site:
Willie Myette (US, Berkeley school)- jazz-funk piano teacher, and he has
up-to-date jazz chord voicings DVD lessons: Chord Voicings DVD Bundle. You can find it: www.jazzpianolessons.com. Also good his www.funkpianolessons.com site.

Again, thank you very much, indeed

Best regards
Balazs

Ok I've add the repository in synaptic.
But it still does not see the 0.9.4 Version.
The only mscore I can see is the 0.9.2....

Can someone help ?
Maybe I made a mistake (I've just started my Xubuntu adventure last week !)

Thanks
