How do you manage without using plug ins? im trying to put in 4 bars across in a 16 bar melody and I cant find any other way , please help.

Welcome, excuse me but I think I haven't figured out. You mean this:

Is https://musescore.org/en/handbook/tools#line-breaks what you're looking for?
The former plugin is no longer needed now that there is Edit / Tools / Add/Remove Line Breaks. But you can also add line breaks manually,. from the Breaks & Spacers palette, just as before.
