Runtime Error when opening file

• Sep 27, 2015 - 03:23

Hey guys, I'm trying to open the attached scores which I created with, I believe, a beta version of MuseScore version 2.

These are two different versions of the same transcription (still trying to figure out the best way to notate a few passages). They both feature many weird tuplets so this may be part of the problem. Tried opening them with my usual portable version of MS (2.0.2), the latest stable version (non portable), as well as latest nightly to no avail.

Any idea how can fix this? I'd really like to complete this.

Thanks in advance.

I could open your file in March. The tuplets were not involved. I found the origin, but it's still a bit confusing, and now I want to know if this is related specifically to your score, or if it can be reproduced from scratch. Investigation further necessary.

I see. I'd be curious to know what caused the issue once you get a better idea.

Is there any way you could fix the 2nd version as well in the meantime ("Solar Wendel origin").

Or just let me know how to fix it with MS 2.0 from March.

Thank you.

Nice job! I also found I was able to repair the score by opening it in a text editor and removing the final horizontal & verticla frames, which for some reason seemed to be causing problems. No idea why.

I see also the chord symbols look very strange, and I see there are some very odd things going on. Did you deliberately customize the appreance of chord symbols to make them work with some other font?

I have attached my version of your "original" score.

Re: bracket. I have no idea, sorry.

The only function for the piano part as it is written was to give me an harmonic reference point for the voice above. I didn't spend much time setting this up; there was a lot of copy-pasting involved so it may explain it.

I'm sorry about giving you guys a hard time. I feel bad for potentially using what are most probably improper methods in my haste.

Okay I managed to reproduce using the same score and 2.0 from March, which I just installed.

Here's a step by step method:

1. you need the last measure to be empty
2. drag an horizontal spacer on this last measure
3. drag a line break on the measure before
4. delete last measure by pressing CTRL+DEL

Edit: these steps also work with a new, blank score set up with a piano voice only (2 staves of course).

Thanks! Transcription's still a work in progress. It's a piano and saxophone duo and some of the phrasing is really loose. This is giving me a hard time.

Anyways, yes I do modify the chord symbols to make them work with a handwritten font I have that looks closer to what people are used to seeing on Real Book type lead sheets. With this said, I haven't been following the development of MS as closely as I used to in the last few months so it may be worth investigating a less "hacky" method for the chord symbols.

Also, these two scores were started a few months back and abandoned for a while so I'm sure there are many areas that look strange just because I haven't finished setting them up properly.

Thanks for all the work in isolating the problem. I have now submitted a fix. Subscribe to the issue #81371: Layout that leads to the encounter of two frames causes a crash to be notified when it is merged and available in a nightly build.

As for the chord symbols, if you want to use a proprietary font, then yes, you will need to use hacks such as yours. But just to be sure you know: MuseScore *does* come with a "handwritten" font and a "Jazz" style of chord symbol rendering. Just start with the Jazz Lead Sheet template, or go to "Style / General / Chord Symbols" and set "Appearance" to "Jazz". The resulting look is based more on that of the "New Real Book" series of fakebooks than the original "Real Book" but then, the font shown in the image I saw elsewhere in this thread doesn't really look much like the original "Real Book" either.
