Problem with note entry mode using Samson Carbon 61

• Oct 5, 2015 - 02:26

My Samson Carbon 61 plays OK as midi keyboard with MuseScore 2.0.2 using Windows XP (and Windows XP download version for MuseScore 2.0.2). (I refer to Carbon 61 as 'midi keyboard' in problem description.)

It plays OK before using note entry mode, but in note entry mode, MuseScore does not recognize first note entry from midi keyboard. If I enter one note with embedded MuseScore piano, then it will accept notes from the midi keyboard, but they are always entered as chords, as if I was holding SHIFT key. When I advance to next note, then again midi keyboard entry is not recognized until I enter a note from embedded piano.

Please give me any ideas, if there are Edit->Preferences variables I can try.
Or, do you have any idea, maybe what MIDI CC (Continuous Controller) settings I might try to change from the Samson Carbon 61 programming side? I have tried each of 4 possible settings for the Velocity Curve.

Thank you very much in advance for your kind help with any ideas. I seem to be very close for it to work, but just need to get this last issue resolved.

I have now verified that everything is working A-OK with Samson Carbon 61. I cannot be sure how it is fixed, but I know it did start working after I downloaded the firmware update tool from their website and loaded the latest firmware 1.26, although I believe that is what the unit came with originally. You cannot read back firmware version with updating the firmware, as far as I know.

However, on testing by going back and forth from 1.26 tp 1.25, I cannot verify it was a firmware problem. Therefore, I think, the main issue was probably just Preferences settings under I/O, and understanding that you have to exit and restart MuseScore when you make changes there.

If you have a similar issue, you may want to exhaustively test the I/O settings in Preferences before resorting to firmware updates.

Glad to hear you found a solution. If you are using a keyboard make sure you plug it in and switch it on *before* you start MuseScore. MuseScore doesn't always detect the keyboard if you do it the other way around. If you have any other problems then don't hesitate to ask on here.
