Go to Style> Edit Text Style> Lyrics.
I am almost finished writing my piece on Musescore 1.0 when all of the sudden my lyric font changed from size 10 to 6.1. I can change it back to 10 but as soon as I type it jumps to 6.1. In the edit text style menu it says that its size 11 even though the other lyric font window at the bottom of my screen says 6.1. What the heck happened to my size 10 lyric font and how do I change the default size permanently? thank you

Just because you activate the text box, it doesn't select the text. After activating the text box, "Select all" text or at least select one letter in the box. Then the text information at the bottom of the screen will reflect the actual values.
