Crashing issues

• Jan 9, 2011 - 01:35

I was whipping away at notating a Prokofiev etude (so I could listen and play along with it) when all of a sudden, Windows notified me that the program stopped working. It closed the program, and I forgot to save it before the program crashed. When I re-opened MuseScore and opened the etude file again, it was exactly the way it was before I worked on it today. It didn't notify me that the previous session ended unexpectedly (like it sometimes notified me).

Please fix this bug so that no one will be frustrated at this problem. This is a very good notation software program, and I would like to continue to use it.

It's one thing to randomly encounter a crash... it's another to find the reason it crashes. It's basically impossible to get rid of crashes completely in Any program (even really professional programs), however if you can find something you do that always (or at least often) crashes the program, that will be much easier to figure out why.

If that specific score causes crashes frequently, you could attach it and somebody can likely figure out why. If it's not specific to that score, then if you can figure out what combination of changes makes it crash, do let us know!

You may find an auto-saved version of your file in C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Local\MusE\MuseScore\
(This is the location of the MuseScore auto-saved files if you are running Windows 7, but the file names are coded so you have to open each of them to find out which is which).

Normally after a crash, the next time you start MuseScore, it asks if you want to restore the previous session. I just filed the following bug, may it is the same reason you didn't see the message asking to restore the previous session?
#8613: [1.0] MuseScore doesn't ask to restore session if you open from file
