Better Default Sound Font Samples

• Nov 26, 2015 - 02:36

Listening to the default soundfont, it's alright for a bare-bones "this is what it should sound like" approach, but when you need to compare with an actual instrument, the samples are electronic-sounding, low quality, and VERY unbalanced in terms of volume.

Percussion instruments aren't that bad, it's only wind instruments that have this problem.

What I'm suggesting here is to have a default soundfont with only samples, mostly wind instruments, so that people can have a better idea as to what it sounds like on a real instrument.

See the Handbook under Soundfont for information on how to use other soundfonts. We'd certainly love to have better options, but there are very few freely licensed alternatives, and pretty much none that are better.

What do you mean "overlap"? Have you read the Handbook on how to use soundfonts and how to change sounds? You can have multiple soundfonts loaded, and change their order of prefered in View / Synthesizer, then choose which soundfont gets used for each instrument individually in the mixer.
