How to edit drumset to get this seashore sound effect?

• Jan 31, 2016 - 11:22

Hi, I'm trying to create a new score using a 'snare drum' instrument and set one of its notes to 'seashore' using 'edit drumset'.

Please see the attachment MIDI file where it works. I can't reproduce it using 'edit drumset' sound 38. In this example, the drum is mapped to a 'acoustic snare', but when played sounds like 'seashore'. Also, you can change the pitch of the note and the sound remains 'seashore' at a higher pitch, it doesn't change to another drum.

In Musescore:
- How do you set a drum to seashore like in the example?
- How do you set the drum note to change pitch when moved, rather than change the drum instrument?

Comments

- Add any instrument, e.g. piano
- Right click the staff and change the instrument name to Seashore (optional, this is just for easy reading later)
- View - Mixer (or F10) - change the sound dropdown to Seashore

A drumset staff can only plays soudns that are actually part of the drumset portion of the soundfont you are using. "Seashore" is not part of the drumset part of the General MIDI specification, so that sound is not available within drumsets. Because it's a separate sound from drumset, you need a separate staff for it.
