Flash card question

• Feb 4, 2016 - 02:08

Hi,

I'm wondering if it would be possible to use Musescore to create some musical flash cards.

In particular, I'd want to have it be able to create a single staff that contained just a clef and a solid note head (w/o a quaver). This led me to wonder how one could change the length of a staff line so that it didn't span a whole page, but just went about 1-1/2 inches across. I didn't find anything in the setup area or in Mastering MuseScore.

Another approach might be if there was a setting that allowed the last line of a staff to not span the entire line, but to occupy a single bar that was left justified. I am uncertain if this feature is currently possible.

Thanks in advance for your consideration of such an esoteric question.

Several ways to do this. Probably the easiest is to just change to page size in Layout / Page Settings. Or make the margins really large. Another approach would be to add horizontal frames after each measure and size them as appropriate. Another would be to set the "Last system fill threshold" to 100% in Style / General, which basically does what you suggested (makes the last system not auto-fill if less than 100% full already).

This is really cool. Thanks for sharing. But the template you made for this was created in MuseScore 0.9.5 or older. As I don't have MuseCore 1.x on my machine, I can't use this.

The workaround Marc gave me got me going. But I love this interactive player thing you made. Is that technology supported in MuseScore (and if so, where's a good pointer to find out more about using it)? I'm a relatively new user but had no idea this kind of multimedia web display was possible.

In general, I've been working on some online tools for young children (K-2nd grade) to gain musical experience via computer. I suspect MuseScore might provide some great tools of yet I'm not aware.

In case you're wondering why I wanted clef with note heads, its to improve this piano educational tool:

https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/96803306/

This one allows kids to learn the structure of the note names on a 2-octave keyboard. Next version will instead show the notation and ask them to play keys that way.

Thanks,
