Can't enter new notes

Hi,

I recently added a new instruments.xml file and TimGM6mb.sf2 file from this website to accommodate marching percussion. However, when I choose a new score from scratch and add those instruments, it doesn't let me add notes. When I enter note entry mode, the cursor appears and the note head appears under my mouse, but when I click, it doesn't let me add a new note. I have tried on all 4 staves. I am using Windows Vista 32 bit with MuseScore v1.0.
