[trunk] Aeolus, how?

• Mar 20, 2011 - 19:45

Hi,

Using rev. 4108 both under Ubuntu and Win XP, self compiled.

Is there any description of how to set things up in a score for Aeolus to be enabled? I know the trick is to use the Staff Text properties of a text element, but its "Change Channel" tab only has the choice "normal" (rather than "Division I" , II, III, P) and the "MIDI Action" lists no channel and no possible action.

I succeeded once by chance after many trials and errors a while ago, but I cannot replicate it anymore. I tried any setting I thought of in the Synthesizer and Mixer windows to no avail.

The only example of Aeolus-enabled score I found in the forum (in this post ) does work and sounds correctly, so I assume the package is correctly configured, compiled and installed.

A short sequence of steps to enable Aeolus in a given score would be VERY appreciated!

Another question about Aeolus implementation:

Can more than one part and/or more than instrument and/or more than staff in a score (I don't understand at which level Aeolus plays its role) be played through Aeolus?

Thanks!

M.

I think the whole playback is a little bit broken right now. I can't play a score I just created, even with the soundfont based synth. Nevertheless, Aeolus is setup and does work with the demo file BWV565.mscz.

I managed to make one from scratch by creating a new score, choosing Pipe-Organ. Then go to mixer and for each staff choose the last choice "Aeolus". Then I added some notes on all staves and a text (Ctrl+T) on the first note. Right click on the text -> Staff text properties and I check voice 1,2,3,4 on the first line (See the first text on first line of bwv565.mscz). The few notes I added are played by aeolus.

Aeolus being choosen in the mixer, I believe it's used for one "part".

Thanks, lasconic!

The missing link was the "Pipe-Organ" part; obvious choice, one would say, but for some reasons, I missed it. Once "Pipe-Organ" is chosen as instrument, everything goes down hill!

About Aeolus and "parts", as far as I could discover:

1) Only one instrument (i.e. 1 expandable/collapsible 'node' in the right side table of the "Create Instruments..." dlg box) can be played through Aeolus; the instrument can have one or many staves (as organ usually does), each with different Aeolus stops.

2) Any additional instrument set up for Aeolus will simply be silent in playback

3) The one Aeolus-enable instrument can be mixed with other 'regular' soundfont-based instruments, but: this requires some mixer juggling as Aeolus volume is currently much lower than average soundfont volume.

Thanks,

M.
