If you go to Edit > Preferences > Note Entry there is a "MIDI Export" section that includes an option about whether to export repeats.

It would make more sense organization-wise if that section appeared in the Preferences > Export tab instead of the Note Entry tab.

Alternatively the "play repeats" option in the playback "Transport Tools" toolbar would affect MIDI export eliminating the need for an extra option in the preferences panel.

fixed in r3220.
Nevertheless, I believe that the best way for import and export parameters is to give the user the choice at the time of export/import, like OpenOffice is doing for PDF, or photoeditor when you save in PNG.

Regarding additional popups on export:

I guess it is a determination whether the default settings are correct 99 percent of the time in which case the dialog "simply creates more work and breaks the flow" (see top‑5 GIMP user requests , "5. avoid pop‑up dialogs")

Or if the settings are likely to change frequently between sessions in which case the dialog would be handy and actually save time.

I think the current options for MIDI and PNG export are unlikely to ever change for most uses.
