Tempo
The need for a more robust and accessible handling of tempo is not really a new feature, but more like a bug.
1) Tempo specification should now be included in the setup dialog for every new score. Tempo is not an extra, neither notationally nor in terms of playback. It is an essential factor that is not yet adequately handled by MuseScore.
2) Alteration of the initially set tempo within the piece is currently handled, somewhat obscurely, under "Text". That is at least understandable, but it should be possible to indicate rallentando or accelerando passages in the score more clearly and precisely, viz.:
First. by dragging and dropping the appropriate text (rall. or accel.) to where the tempo should start to change.
Next, by indicating (with a visible or invisible marker) at what point in the score the new tempo should be reached.
And finally, by attaching to that marker a percentage value by which the prevailing tempo should by then be reduced or increased.
3) The new Tempo text dialog should also include the option of inserting an "a tempo" marker, which resets the tempo to its initial value as prescribed in the setup, starting at the point where it is placed. If the "a tempo" text mark is not inserted at the point where the preceding rall. or accel. terminates, the piece would continue from that point onward at the newly reduced or increased tempo.
None of the abovementioned additions or improvements in tempo handling should require major surgery to incorporate in the program. Perhaps one may hope to find them mentioned in the list of active issues before too long?
Comments
I'm affected by the lack of in-score tempo specification and hence support this feature request.

what's meant by "in-score tempo specification."
Tempo per se can presently be specified and changed as needed; I thought the issue was support for ritardando and accelerando;

Just consider my first comment as a bit unprecise and generalizing. Essentially I wanted to say that I support the feature request.
