Ties
Is there a way to get tied notes to sound like they are tied. Example: If I tied 2 quarter notes, how do I get it not to sound like 2 separate quarter notes?
Thanks.

Using a Tie and not a Slur
i had the same question...
i don't see a "tie" under the lines pallete, so i guess you have to click the tie icon on the menu bar while entering the note value

Just select the first note of the two notes you want to tie and then press “Shift +” and those notes will be connected by a tie.
People, like lasconic wrote, often mistake between a “slur” and a “tie”.
By the way, those notes must be part of the same 'voice'.

And it's all explained in the handbook. Check Tie and Slur
Good grief, I have been using slurs instead of ties since day one. This is a good example of how it's possible to miss an important feature even if "it's in the manual." From a UI standpoint, it seems intuitive that one would look in the 'lines' palette for ties as well as slurs (though I admit that it seemed odd to use a single element for both these purposes, but I had concluded a that tie was just any slur at the same pitch). I'm sure others will have this confusion in future; perhaps a more richly-annotated palette would help with this in future. Moreover, it seems to me that the "law of least astonishment" tells us that there should be a palette entry for a slur.
